Not all cars need stainless steel exhausts, even if they are luxury classics. Show cars and performance cars spend most of their lives away from road salt and poor weather conditions. Because of this a tailor made mild steel exhaust will usually give many years service. This XK came in for a mild steel exhaust build. The pipework and boxes are exactly the same as stainless steel and a stainless tip was added so the final look is the same. The only difference is the price, usually about half the cost for a mild steel exhaust.

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011This BMW had been treated to an M3 kit but needed some exhaust work. the standard exhaust had been sitting against the body kit and melted the back bumper. The request was to give the car a copy of the M3’s quad tip design. This was a tall order as the back box sat right up against the bumper leaving no room for pipework. We designed a system that turned the gas flow around and brought it forwards again before heading back to the tips. The look and sound was exactly as the customer wanted
Performance Porsche
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011We’ve helped out with quite a few jobs on this Porsche. It has been taking part in the MSVR trackday trophy this year and was in need of a new exhaust. The owner wanted stainless steel and to keep the noise to around 95 db so it remains eligible for even the quietest trackdays. The system was build from 2.25 inch 304 stainless using 2 boxes. The result- 94 db at 3/4 RPM. Exactly what was ordered.
You’ve got to be flexible
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011Most exhausts have flexible section in them to allow the engine and exhaust to move independently of each other. A lot a manufacturers these days are putting the flex on the same section of exhaust as the cat. That means that when the flex goes you have to bin the cat and dig deep to replace the lot. At AA Silencers we can replace the flex by itself. We weld in a flex to the same specification as your original exhaust often for less than half the price of a replacement exhaust.
More Vroom for a VXR
Thursday, May 26th, 2011This Astra VXR has already had a little work done under the bonnet but before it heads off for a re-map the exhaust needs attention. The customers request was simple, fast and loud. A 200 cell sports cat replaced the original and three inch stainless steel pipework weaved it’s way to a tiny back box. The VXR tip was replicated but made a little bit bigger to set off the look. With the added poke from the free flowing exhaust the customer quite wisely decided on a brake upgrade. the car has massive brakes as standard so we settled on simply uprating the pad. EBC Yellow pads were fitted to keep things useable on the road and sharp even when hot.

Although the battered box was doing little to silence the car the owner quite liked his new found exhaust tone. We replaced the box with a sportier design and with a few modifications saved the rest of his stainless system. Another nice cheap fix to a potentially expensive problem.
beef up your flange
Wednesday, May 25th, 2011This XR3i challenge car came to us in need of a custom engineering job. The front pipe to his race exhaust had been supplied by another well known exhaust builder but the front flange wasn’t strong enough. It kept bending causing it to blow. Also the centre section of the exhaust wasn’t properly supported causing it to droop down and catch kerbs during the race. We gas flowed the manifold as far as regulations allowed and had a new flange laser cut from industrial strength steel. We designed and built a new smooth flow front pipe and centre section, then mounted them all with extra hangers and supports.

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011As the summer sets in all the classics come out and head for the shows. This one was also in need of a few touch ups in the exhaust department. Again there was no need for a complete new system and given that the car only did limited mileage each year the owner felt a stainless exhaust wasn’t necessary. For a fraction of the cost of stainless we custom built the back box in mild steel saving him money and still giving that tailor made touch.
Stainless Repairs
Wednesday, May 25th, 2011Sometimes even the finest quality stainless exhaust can get damaged. Speed bumps and fields at car shows can take their toll. This lovely classic had a battered stainless exhaust but it turned out that with a few select repairs his current system could be saved. This saved him spending extra on e complete new system and allowed him to change the exhaust note slightly while we were there. Everyone’s a winner.
Difficult De-cat
Wednesday, March 30th, 2011This lambo was in need of a little extra silencing. The cat’s had failed causing a loss of power and a nasty noise. The customer wanted us to take out the cats and replace them with silencer boxes hoping for more power and less noise. That’s always a tall order but even more so when squeezed into the back of a lambo. We managed to twist and turn the pipework and boxes into the tiny gaps. hopefully the car will be a little quieter, it will certainly get it’s power back with the exhaust breathing properly.
