Capri Development

The AA Sport/AA Silencers Capri race car continues to be developed in between other commitments. The latest development is with the rear axle location. These bars reduce both axle tramp and lateral movement. An added advantage is that by moving the pickup points we’ve been able to change the roll axis of the car and hopefully improve the handling. More testing is required but it looks good so far

Moggy weldathon

We’ve been doing a  lot or Morris Minors recently. I think a lot of owners are pre-empting an increase in value so have taken to welding and waxoyling. This Morris needed lots of welding on the floor, but the further we got into it the more it needed. You can see from the pictures the amount of panels that went into the car, that’s not counting the ones we had to make! It took 2 solid weeks of cutting, dressing, welding, fabricating, welding again, dressing some more then waxoyling to get some strength  back into the old girl. After all of that I’m sure she’ll be on the road for another 30 years yet.

Crusty Moggy

This Moggy has been in to us before for a bit of rolling restoration. This time there was only a small crack in the chassis rail at the front. We cut it out and treated the inside of the rail with rust killer. A new chassis section was then grafted in and the whole thing treated to a dose of Waxoyl. The owner of this car takes a lot of pride in it. It’s a pleasure to take the time to do a thorough repair to a high standard.

This nissan came in for a track day/show cage ahead of a respray and some other mods. The cage can be seen half done. The finished article really set the car off.

What linkeage?

Another old escort made it’s way in for a Watt’s linkeage, some seat mounts and a few other bits and pieces. The watts linkeage is designed to control lateral loads on the axle and stop it moving about when cornering. We just had to weld the mounts in to the body and axle ensuring everyting was lined up correctly. The car already had 4 link boxes and slipper springs fitted so it won’t be long until this one’s back on the road.

Sick Saxo

This Saxo was due in for some preparation work as it’s owner was heading east towards the Nurbergring in Germany. We had various things to look at including brakes, a bit of welding ready for a roll cage and to check over the turbo install. The turbo had been installed by a previous owner and They’d done a pretty good job by all accounts. If Citroen had done it themselves it wouldn’t have been any better. Unfortunatley the day it was due in the Saxo was driven into in a car park casuing a fair amount of front end damage. The clock was ticking as the date for track day was set so a few late nights were called upon. It all went back together and the car made it to the nurbergring on time.

 

Mad Mini

When a customer called to ask if we could do some work to get his mini through an MoT this wasn’t exactly what we were expecting.  The car had obviously seen some pretty serious modification before it came to us, with the whole centre section and roof having been chopped out. You now sit on the back seats to drive it, or at least you would if they hadn’t rotten away. The car had sat for around 7 years and although it had been covered it wasn’t looking well. Everything is seized or rotten but we managed to get the engine fired into life and free of the gearbox and brakes. There’s a lot to do but it’s such a wonderful little car we can’t wait to see it back on the road again

track day civic

This civic came in needing an MoT and setting up for the race track. The two things don’t normally go hand in hand but this little terrier has to do daily driving duties and will see some serious track day action too. There a was a big list of work including welding and various suspension upgrades, wheel bearings, brakes etc. Once it was all assembled the geometry equipment came out to make sure everything was pointing in the right direction and away it went for it’s MoT. With a green ticket first time through the owner went away with a big smile and no doubt headed for the nearest race track.
