Lower and louder

Monday, November 29th, 2010

We had already had this Boxster in to build a stainless steel sports exhaust. The customer then wanted his brake pads upgrading and some lowering spring fitted. True to form for German cars over engineering was evident everywhere. Half the suspension needed to come out to to get to the springs but the results were worth the effort as the slighgtly lower stance really improves the look

Radical Improvements

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Here’s a car that divides opinions, normally depending on whether you’re male or female. Most men seem to reckon it’s a thing of beauty, most women seem to disagree. One thing you couldn’t argue is it’s speed, these things are rapid. The formula is simple, take one super lightweight chassis, stick a motorbike engine in it and add a load of aerodynamics for grip. Radical really got it right with these cars and there success has been tremendous, including lap records and the Nurburgring  circuit in Germany. This particular car has been having some difficulties with it’s exhaust. The header pipes on the exhaust manifold kick back around the engine and locate into collectors. The pipes keep coming loose and have cracked in several places so new sleeves have been added and the joints repaired. Less than a days work and the car is back on track frightening the locals, and probably the driver too.

Recession Beater – free exhausts!

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Let’s face it, times are hard.  If you believe everything you read in the newspapers we’ll all be queueing for bread in the streets soon. The last thing you need is big repair bills for a car that you can’t manage without. We always keep our prices as low as possible plus run several scheme’s here to try and make life a little easier on the customers wallet. To add to our promotional offers for a short time only we are giving away free exhausts. The 8th customer invoiced for an exhaust each day will receive their exhaust system fitted free of charge up to a maximum cost of £50. Just print out this page and bring it along when you pay to see if you’re our lucky customer.

Something a little different

Monday, September 13th, 2010

A customer called up and asked if we could build something totally different for his navara. His brief was to build something wild that no-one else has got, and to free up the gasses from his turbo as this particular truck is pushing out some serious power. the pictures speak for themselves, what you can’t see is the decat, and that the twin side pipes match on both sides. Definately different

Super Seat needs more wind

Monday, June 28th, 2010

This seat came to us having already received extensive modificatons. The car was producing super power but had some nasty flat spots in it’s torque curve due to some air restrictions. It already had a very free flowing exhaust on so the only area to improve on was to remove the cat. The induction kit currently on the car left the air filter sitting in the engine bay amongst all the hot air, so we divised a kit that would move the filter to a high pressure air pocket in the inner wing fed by an air vent in the front bumper. Like most modern diesels with this level of work it drives like a Supercar but still returns reasonable fuel economy.

Mallory Park PPC Show

Friday, June 18th, 2010

AA Silencers was out in force at this years PPC show. We ran several cars there and drove the Practical Performance Car magazines Porsche on their behalf as the other magazine staff members were rather busy organising the event. Several staff members and customers drove on track in array of cars and the AA Silencers Capri was busy all day long giving passenger rides. The trade stand was busy with enquiries ranging from geomtry set up information to aerodynamic devices and engine conversions.

Porsche suffers attack of Ebay

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

We’ve done a few of these Porsche back box mods now. I’m told the top performance cars use the same boxes but have a bypass pipe which drop the back boxes internal pressure into the tail pipe, so increasing flow whilst still keeping some level of sound control.

The first one we did we modified the customers existing boxes based on some pictures he had and it all looked like a perfectly plausable modification. The next one was a chap who’d purchased what he believed to be the same thing from Ebay in Germany. When we opened the boxes we found the exhaust had been modifiied in a very differnt way. It looked as though someone had welded a piece of old stool leg straight between the inlet and outlet of the exhaust totally bypassing the box. The quality of both the metal and the welding was pretty dubious.

We informed the customer but he wanted them fitting anyway which we duly did. To be honest the exhaust still sounded good when the car was running and the customer was happy which was the main thing. I think it’s lucky he couldn’t see what his exhausts looked like though and he wasn’t concerned with the performance implications. It just goes to show you need to be careful what you buy off ebay and what lurks beneath your car as a good exhaust is more than just the noise it makes.

Moggy 2000- nearing completion

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

DSCF1686The Morris minor having a zetec engine fitted is close to completion. Cooling systems, fuel system, exhaust, gearbox mounts, chassis mods to fit the starter and many other small jobs are all hugely time consuming but progress is slowly being made. There’s a few more small jobs then the car needs switching over to negative earth and the ECU needs fitting and programming. We can finally start looking forward to the maiden voyage!

Diesel Particulate Filters

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Diesel particluate filters are the latest piece of nonesense fitted to modern diesel cars and vans to satisfy emissions legisalation. They work by catching soot particles which are caught in a fine mesh. They build up in the mesh until the vehicles computer senses the time has come to burn them out, at which point a bit of extra fuel is injected into the exhaust to burn the carbon out at very high temperatures.  The theory is fine but the reality is they block up, restrict your cars power and put the engine management light on. They also normally cost about a thousand pounds to replace. Gulp.

AA Silencers has teamed up with Mike at Rapid Remap www.rapidremap.co.uk to provide a better solution. We at AA Silencers can remove the paarticulate filter and disconnect or relocate any relevant sensors. The car will then go to Mike who remaps the car to remove the management warning light and at the same time if required give you more power and better fuel economy. All of this at a fraction of the cost of your replacement Particulate Filter.  Everyones a winner.

No project too strange

Friday, March 12th, 2010

This is one of those strange requests that instantly gets your attention. We received a contact from the website saying that a chap was fitting a Holbay engine into a commer van but needed an exhaust manifold making up. Sadly the engine arrived on a crate so we haven’t seen the finished project but from the description we’ve had it’ll be quite some creation. He wasn’t too concerned about tuned lengths, just getting everything fitted into the engine bay. It’s always hard without the car as we don’t really know how much space there is to play with but we marked everything out carfully and built it to a pattern so it should do the job nicely.
